Orr was engaged by Campagna Center as the
project manager for the historic renovation and
preservation of their building in the heart of
Old Town Alexandria. Constructed in 1888, the building was once a school and later administrative offices for Alexandria City Public Schools. It was converted into office space in 1981 and purchased by Campagna Center in 1993.

Orr led the team through the renovation to transform the structure into a modern facility while preserving its original character. The two floors and basement with classrooms throughout were transformed into a modern workspace with new conference rooms, a library, computer rooms, and an outdoor patio. Through Orr’s careful planning and team leadership, the team found innovative design solutions to address accessibility issues that complicated compliance with modern codes.

The building was revitalized by stripping it back to its original brick and wood framing and restructuring it with modern amenities. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were updated. The original basement, which lacked both height and light with no ADA access, was transformed by raising the old first floor. This adjustment facilitated the creation of a new ADA-compliant entrance off the street, significantly improving accessibility. This successfully transformed the basement into a vibrant program space and enhanced the overall usability of the facility into the future.
